10 Terrifying 9-1-1 Scenes That Made Fans Realize They Could Never Do This in Real Life
We wouldn’t last a day.
There is no doubt that only the most courageous, dedicated and well-trained people can spend their lives helping others in the most brutal cases. Dispatchers, paramedics, police officers and firefighters are the people you'll first face if you find yourself in a situation you can't get out of safely, and it's these people's jobs to get you out of there no matter what.
9-1-1 is just one of many shows that show all kinds of terrifying moments that these brave people face every day on the job. And while every one of them is scary in its own way, there are 10 that give viewers the most chills.
The Suicide of Shame (S1E2)
If you're afraid of heights, you'd never set foot on a roller coaster, and an episode like this wouldn't do you any good. But the most heartbreaking thing is to see someone you could've helped refuse your efforts and fall because they chose to. Witnessing a suicide is one of the most traumatic things anyone can experience.
The Worm in the Eye (S4E3)
One thing no one wants to deal with is any kind of parasite, and the case the team was presented with in the third episode of the fourth season is one of those that you end up having nightmares about. Going blind in one place is bad enough, but getting actual worms out of someone's eye is another matter entirely.
The Boy in the Well (S3E15)
The worst thing that can happen to a person is to be buried alive. Eddie finding and rescuing the boy trapped there was truly heroic, but it almost cost him his life, as he got buried under the ground. Luckily, he got saved just in time, but if the rescue took even a bit longer, he could’ve ended up completely strangled.
The Motorcycle Accident (S1E10)
9-1-1 hit viewers hard from the start. In the finale of the very first season, Captain Bobby Nash was put in the worst possible position, watching a man cut in half in a motorcycle accident talk to his son, unaware that he was dying. The scene was hard to watch, even if it was fictional, but it's probably similar to situations first responders face on a daily basis.
Struck by Lightning (S6E10)
It would be safe to say that Buck has been in enough life-threatening situations, but nothing has ever come close to being struck by lightning. Not to mention that most people don't come out of such an experience alive, that would probably be the moment to reconsider your career choice and resign to something safer. But that was not the case for Buck.
The Tragic Proposal (S2E4)
Many people fear the escalators and try to get off them as quickly as possible, but for the one unlucky groom that wasn’t the case. Standing on one knee at the escalator was the worst possible idea, and unfortunately, he got stuck in it, and his internal organs got crushed. It’s harder to imagine a story more tragic.
The Werewolf Among Us (S1E7)
While there are many calls first responders get that most people would find frightening, it's the weird, unstable people who can end up being the worst criminals. The case of the werewolf man, who was sober but attacking people on the street and trying to eat them alive, was a shocking reminder of what you can expect from strangers in real life.
The Big Tsunami (S3E2)
While the crimes that humans commit are often terrifying because of the cruelty and violence we can't explain, natural disasters usually take many more lives and are impossible to stop. Buck went through a lot in this episode, seeing Christopher, a child so dear to him, in danger. He was very brave to go back to work after seeing someone close to him struggle.
The Spider Web (S5E13)
One of the biggest phobias many people have is a fear of spiders. Unfortunately, those first responders who live in the South may encounter a lot of them during their cases. This one case, however, showed a man completely covered in webs, with many spiders feeding on his body. We cannot blame Bobby for running away.
The Firetruck Explosion (S2E18)
One of the worst things about mass murderers is that they are unpredictable. No one could have guessed who would be the bomber's next victim, and the audience certainly did not expect it to be a fire truck. Just as Buck didn't expect to find himself in the middle of an explosion, and yet he bravely made it through.
